The Anthropos Doctoral School, Polish Academy of Sciences, welcomes applications for admission for the 2019/2020 academic year. The Anthropos confers degrees in humanities and social sciences, in the fields of archeology, anthropogeography and land management, history, linguistics, literary studies, cultural and religious studies and art studies. The graduate faculty includes professors of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnology, the Institute of Literary Research, the S. Leszczycki Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization, the T. Manteuffel Institute of History, the L. and A. Birkenmajer Institute for the History of Science, the Institute of the Polish Language, the Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures, the Institute of Slavic Studies and the Institute of Art. Admission to the Anthropos School is a two-stage open competition (Admission Rules). Candidates that successfully pass the evaluation of their applications will be admitted to an interview. The approximate admission limit: 20.

 

Required application materials*:

  • a letter of application indicating the institute in which the candidate would like to carry out a research project, addressed to the director of the School (click),
  • transcript of a second-cycle or uniform master’s degree diploma or certification from an educational institution of obtaining a master’s degree (in the case of foreigners — an equivalent document), or a certification of admission to defense of one’s thesis, which will take place before June 1, 2019, or a certification of carrying out a “Diamond Grant”,
  • a dissertation research statement (up to 5 pages of standardized text),
  • academic curriculum vitae with a list of publications and other scholarly achievements,
  • copy of master’s thesis or its equivalent (in the form of a file, ideally in PDF format on a data storage device),
  • certificate of foreign language proficiency at least at a B2 level (or equivalent); in absence of a certification, part of the interview can be conducted in the congress language chosen by the candidate,
  • contact details of a prospective referee who could recommend the candidate (along with permission to further process personal data),
  • two photographs (35 x 45 mm),
  • personal questionnaire (click),
  • for foreigners: certificate of diploma of completed studies or equivalent document with apostille authentication, or the authentication of these documents through the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA),
  • confirmation of transfer of payment for the admission fee. The admission fee in 2019/20 is 50 PLN. The candidate should transfer the payment to the account of the Instytut Historii PAN, account number: 04 1130 1017 0020 1463 2420 0002 (Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, SWIFT code: GOSKPLPW), titling the payment “rekrutacja” along with your name and surname. In justified cases the candidate can apply for the waiving of the admission fee. The application should include documentation confirming the validity of applying for waiving the fee. The decision in the matter of waiving the candidate’s admission fee is made by the director of the Doctoral School.

 

Documents should be submitted from June 17 to September 5, 2019 (9 a.m. – 2 p.m.) in the headquarters of the Doctoral School in the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences or sent by mail to the Instytut Historii PAN, Rynek Starego Miasta 29/31, 00-272 Warszawa with the note: Doctoral School. Documents sent by regular mail should also be sent in the form of a scan by email to: szkola.anthropos@ihpan.edu.pl. Documents submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

Interviews will take place from September 23–27, 2019. Chosen candidates will be informed of the date and time of the interview by email or telephone.

 

* Personal data submitted by the candidate is processed by the Data Administrator, i.e. Instytut Historii PAN, headquartered in Warsaw, Rynek Starego Miasta 29/31, for purposes of the admission process.
