Gdański Notatnik Historyczny is an online scientifical journal. This is an initiative, that was born in the Departement of the History of Pomerania of the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Museum of Gdańsk. Historians working in both of these institutions noticed the need to create a forum for presenting partial research and the effects of everyday research work. The journal enables the publication of shorter statements, showing selected aspects of original scientific studies, which, as side threads, often escape the authors of larger texts. The idea of the new scientifical journal comes down mainly to recognizing the group of younger and middle generation researchers and the research they conduct. However, experienced scientists who wish to publish articles and small source contributions are also invited to publish. The journal is intended for representatives of a wide range of specialists, including primarily historians, historians of art and architecture, but also ethnographers, archaeologists, sociologists, archivists and literary scholars. The aim and mission of the journal is the exchange of ideas, the opportunity for all interested authors to express their opinions (in Polish, English and German), as well as the integration of researchers and the revival of discussion while maintaining the highest publishing standards. The thematic scope of the journal includes the history of Gdańsk, Pomerania and the countries of the Baltic region. In addition to articles and contributions, we would like to include source miscellanea, discussions and reviews, a chronicle of scientific life and bibliographic notes in subsequent volumes.
