The Tadeusz Manteuffel Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences is looking for an Assistant Professor to join the Department of Historical Atlas. The duties of the person hired will include conducting scientific research in the field of history from a spatial perspective (primarily historical geography, environmental history and the history of cartography) using digital tools and methods (e.g. databases, GIS), publishing their results, and applying for external grants, as well as carrying out ongoing statutory work.
Requirements:
- a doctoral degree (with habilitation) in humanities or social sciences,
- scientific achievements (books, scientific articles, conference presentations) in the field of history related to the spatial dimension of historical research,
- presentation of research interests and plans for the next two years (up to 1 standard page) related to the spatial dimension of historical research,
- readiness to apply for external grants (e.g. NCN, NPRH, MNiSW),
- experience in working with digital tools and methods in history in the field of digital and spatial humanities (e.g. relational/graphic databases, Geographic Information Systems, deep mapping, network analysis, etc.) is welcome. In the absence of such experience – a willingness to learn how to conduct historical research spatially in a digital environment is required,
- active and passive knowledge of Polish and English, and passive knowledge of one of the following languages: French, German, Russian,
- willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team of historians, geographers and programmers.
Applicants must provide:
- An application for employment addressed to the Director of the Institute*
- CV (1 page A4 size)
- A copy of the PhD and habilitation diploma
- Information about current scientific achievements along with a bibliograph,
- Declaration of the applicant that in case of a successful application, Institute of History of Polish Academy of Sciences will be the main place of work
- The candidate should agree to be counted in the number of employees engaged in research activities during the period of employment, i.e., the number “N” for purposes of the algorithm for distributing base funds for activities required by the Polish law.
