The journal Studia Geohistorica is a specialist periodical presenting research at the intersection of geography and history. It continues the long scientific tradition of historical geography and the history of geography and cartography, at the same time drawing on the development of such sub-disciplines as human geography, cultural geography or humanistic geography. It is therefore addressed both to representatives of the humanities and social sciences and to representatives of geographical disciplines who conduct their research within the paradigm of a spatial view of the past. The yearbook is a platform for the exchange of experiences and research results, as well as for the presentation of research approaches that are diverse or complementary in terms of subject and technique. In this proposal, historical geography ceases to be a discipline, a sub-discipline, an auxiliary science of history or geography. Instead, it becomes a method, and even more, a research paradigm corresponding to a ‘spatial turn’ in contemporary social sciences and the humanities. An important place in it is given to the methodological discussion of existing research and its new proposals, as well as to the issues related to the application of spatial information systems and temporal-spatial databases (Historical GIS).
The journal also provides access to the data connected with the publication. The Fontium Atlas section contains articles related to the presentation of spatial data in an online application.
The geographical scope of the journal is focused on the territories of the former Poland and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the countries closely related to them, primarily through a neighbourhood relationship; this region can also be referred to as Central and Eastern Europe. The research questions posed by the authors should therefore not overlook the realities of this area or parts of it.
