This is Poland’s oldest, nearly unique and certainly the most important periodical devoted entirely to the social and economic history of Poland and universal history. Founded by Franciszek Bujak and Jan Rutkowski, it has been in continuous publication since 1931 (apart from the obvious interruption of the Second World War and some delay in subsequent years) and boasts more than 70 volumes that have appeared in print thus far. Founded in Lviv, until 1938 it was published there, then later in Poznań, and from vol. 56/57 (1996/1997) in Warsaw. Throughout the post-war period, the Poznań Society for the Advancement of Arts and Sciences has been the publisher, and since 2004 in collaboration with the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The journal’s editorial committees have gathered outstanding Polish scholars.
