Institute of History Tadeusz Manteuffel of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw announces a competition* for the position of adjunct – postdoctoral trainee (post-doc) – contractor of the research project entitled “Secularization of the West: Tacitism from the 16th to the 17th Century”, commissioned by the National Science Center (project no. 2019/35/B/HS1/04039) under the supervision of Dr. Jan H. Waszink.
The tasks of the trainee will include:
– writing a synthesis on the history of Tacitism in one European region, according to the principles of the project,
– writing and publishing articles on topics connected with the project,
– presenting papers at conferences,
– taking part in the discussions and exchange of ideas both within the project group and with the academic community,
– assist the project leader in the management of the project, the supervision of the PhD students and other tasks such as the organization of meetings connected with the project.
DESCRIPTION: The candidate should:
a) have a doctoral degree in humanities in the history of culture or intellectual history, or the history of religion from the early modern era,
b) have research experience and scientific achievements confirmed by publications in the field of research on the history of culture and the history of the Reformation,
c) experience in working with sources,
d) fluent knowledge of spoken and written English and Latin (knowledge of Italian and / or French will be an advantage),
e) have proven experience in teamwork,
f) have proven experience in managing research projects,
g) declare consent to be included in the number of employees conducting research activity during the employment period, i.e. in the number N for the purposes of the algorithm for allocating the base subsidy to statutory activity.
Employment: after signing the IH PAN – NCN grant agreement (probably from 01/12/2020) for a period of 3 years, full-time. Detailed terms of employment (in line with the recommendations of the National Science Center) will be specified in the employment contract for a closed period, concluded between the adjunct–trainee and the Director of the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

– Curriculum Vitae,
– a copy of the doctoral diploma,
– information on scientific achievements with a bibliography,
– sample of one publication by the candidate in English,
– candidate’s declaration that in the event of winning the competition, IH PAN will be the primary place of work,
