Polska 1944/45–1989. Studia i materiały [English: Poland 1944/45–1989. Studies and materials] is journal published by the Tadeusz Manteuffel Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences since 1995. From the thirteenth issue, the journal has been published as an annual. It is one of the most recognisable and respected journals devoted to the post-war history of Poland in Poland and abroad.
So far, the yearbook has been dominated by texts that chronologically followed the caesuras contained in its title. The editors decided to expand this formula and found it advisable to also publish texts dating beyond 1989. This results from the belief that the last 35 years have been largely shaped by what happened in “People’s Poland” and that rigorously separating these two periods is harmful to the understanding of many historical events and processes.
In recent years, Poland 1944/45–1989. Studies and materials was implemented by the “Support for Scientific Journals” program of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Authors publishing in the journal do not incur any costs. The editorial office does not charge authors any fees for preparing, placing and printing materials. The magazine is financed from the state budget.
