Acta Poloniae Historica

Acta Poloniae Historica, published twice-yearly by the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences, is a journal with a long tradition in Polish historiography, and is also recognised on the international market of historical periodicals. Founded by the eminent Polish historian Marian Małowist (1909–1988), it has been being published since 1958. The journal presents research by Polish historians dealing with historical topics ranging from the medieval to the contemporary, and illustrates the influence of the most important trends in modern historiography on the work of Polish researchers. It also publishes studies by historians from abroad who study the history of Poland and of Central and Eastern Europe.

The volumes are consistently structured and include research articles, reviews, short notes on new publications (arranged chronologically from the Middle Ages to recent history) and occasional reports from noteworthy academic events (a chronicle). Beginning with issue 107, the journal also includes the section entitled ‘archive’, which presents articles published several decades ago by outstanding Polish historians – papers that played an important role in the development of historical research, but were hitherto unavailable in English translation (one per volume). In recent years, every second or third issue is entirely or largely thematic in nature and is devoted to issues that are particularly vividly researched and discussed. Information on the subject matter of future thematic issues will be published in the section For Authors – Article Submission. The journal also has a profile page on the Academia.edu portal, where calls for articles to upcoming issues of the journal are published (beginning with issue 116).

Acta Poloniae Historica has been published entirely in English for several years, for over 20 years it has been featured on the Philadelphia ‘Master List’ (without an impact factor) and on the ERIH PLUS list (INT-1). The journal is published in the open access model, which means that the electronic publications contained in APH are available free of charge.
